Memorial Day is a day in which we pay homage to soldiers who have fallen in all wars in which our freedoms were on the line.
From the Revolutionary war that broke the American Colonies away from the Monarchy of England, to the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, it is vital to remember exactly what the cost of freedom can turn out to be. Death is not an easy thing to deal with in war. Just ask the soldiers who have experienced it in their presence to heightened extremes. When a soldier decides to go into military service, he goes in knowing full well what the job requires, and the harsh possibilities of where it can lead, even to the point of expiration.
A hero, in the classic sense of the word, is a person who carries a strong mind in the face of danger and with courage, boldness, and bravery, engages a dangerous and life threatening situation with a goal to eliminate the danger as it works to advance and eradicate anything and everything that threatens to stop its pursuit at the expense of trampling over everyone else.
The very individuals whose lives were lost in preventing the advancement of evil and the dangers to a free society in America are the heroes we honor here today. Let us take a little time out to remember their sacrifice, realize the nature of the dangers that they confronted, and appreciate the sacrifice that they offered so that we wouldn’t have to confront those dangers on our own, and fall slave to them for the rest of our lives.
