It was an incredible night for Martin Scorsese, as his latest film "The Departed" won four Academy Awards. Read my review of "The Departed" at: makingsense.proboards27.com/index.cgi?board=talking&action=display&thread=1160901430The film won in the categories of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writing, and Best Film Editing. View the rest of the winners here: oscar.com/oscarnight/winners/indexPolitics: The one thing that did not catch me by surprise was the political tone. With former Vice President Al Gore sitting in the audience, and actually participating in the Oscars, there was sort of an Inconvenient mis-truth. While Al Gore was being worshiped for his documentary about global warming, we were catching another massive snowstorm. Although it's not surprising that Hollywood is full of Left-Wing partisan politics, I do applaud them for being classy in how they expressed their views. The thing that irritated me the most was this line, "There's no rhyme or reason to who's going to win. Jennifer Hudson was on American Idol, America didn't vote for her, and she's here with an Oscar nomination. That's amazing. And then, Al Gore is here, America did vote for him, and then . . . very complicated." Gore laughed and shook his head. All in all though, it was a pretty good Oscar Night.
