The creator of Babylon 5 (TV show that ran from 1993-1998) has stated he plans a reboot of the show next year. See this article Babylon 5 Reboot my concern is he plans to use some of the original cast ( at least 3 of the main characters have sadly passed on (Stephen Franklin, G'Kar to name but two), plus its almost a plan to redo the entire 5 season 110 episode storyline in one film. This is a big ask and I am not sure what to make of it. Guess we will have to see what he comes up with as far as a script and storyline go for the movie.

In most instances, what reboots like this amounts to is an alternative way to expand the market of its brand. Since the series ended in the late 1990's, I think it would be appropriate to say that it has been forgotten by many and left undiscovered by a new generation. By generating a reboot, whether it is a film, or a TV series, it introduces the brand to a new generation, and hopes to reignite interest in the fans of the original series. That (the studios hope anyway) will bring new audiences not only to see the movie, but arouse an interest to discover the old series on DVD, while also rekindling an interest in the fans of the original shows, who may then want to purchase the seasons on DVD.
Hollywood has been doing a lot of stuff like this lately. Will it work? Only the market will tell.
