At the time of this article, we have less than a week before we decide to continue our current path as a nation, or choose a different one. In America, there are many people who simply do not follow politics, and as such, those people are left with an epic struggle of responsibly choosing their next candidate. Their struggle is mired in choosing their candidate based on what the media says, what campaign ads say, and who their friends and family are voting for. Yet, apart from the “noise” of these overwhelming influences is a very real and very harsh reality. That reality is the state of this country, what policies led us to this point, and what will happen in the next 4 years should these current policies continue.
One of the things I see all too often is people’s deciding to vote for the leader of their choice either because of their personal favorability towards the person (without knowing anything about how the government works or how his policies help or hurt the situations he is given), or because that leader’s policies make sense, and complement in a constructive fashion, the mechanics of how businesses work, where we the people and our predetermined goals factor in, and how government complements or constricts the efficiency and effectiveness of those mechanical functions. What deciphers between the Obama and Romney brands are how they are manufactured.
Obama: What Is and The Looming Adversity He Faces
President Obama has, though in a subtle way, justified the decisions he has made these past 4 years, and as such we are left with the situation we are currently in as a result. The national debt is over $16 trillion dollars, the deficit is still around $1.3 trillion. More people are on welfare than ever before in this nation’s history, yet one has to ask himself, where is the money coming from to pay for that welfare? Government. Where is the government getting it? The government is getting the money by accumulating more debt via the Federal Reserve Bank, and other nations like China. Continuing on this path makes for a difficult “selling point,” yet the hope from this campaign, it seems, is to reword and reshape certain notions and reframe the narrative to pass off a different and unfavorable image to anyone who opposes the status quo, as it currently stands.
Romney: What Is, and the Looming Adversity He Faces
Mitt Romney’s candidacy depends on addressing the results of the decisions this president has made within the past 4 years, and how he will work to correct those results these next 4 years, should he win. Working to correct what is will need to involve the application of sensible and practical solutions in order to pay down our debt (if at all possible), get people off of welfare, working again, and having them contribute to society by setting in motion a pro-growth environment that permits stable economic growth in order for people to make a living, reallocate one’s dependency on government to dependency on their own skills and talents, and from that Americans will be able to contribute constructively to the system in order to get this country back on track again. The greatest challenge to this overall strategy is misconceived notions that garner immediate reactions, yet carry no details. Fear of “returning to the policies of the past” (conveniently) do not address specifically what those “policies” in fact are, nor offer any clear explanation as to how they led to a collapse. It is, more or less, a blanket statement that allows you to “fill in the blank” (based on what you know, or don’t know, but perceive to be), while offering no alternative to the status quo.
What I find absolutely amazing about this election cycle is that it is probably the most epic in scale in regards to our making a decision based on what is real, true, and obvious competing against what is perceived to be, what sounds good, and how the personality people like due to a vast, well funded machine that keeps promoting it sways opinions to favor what he wants. In essence, it is a contest of recognizing facts and using logic to repair our problems competing against a powerful delusion that has no clear and concise mandate other than what he wants. That, I believe, is why that now is the appropriate time to start studying hard, engage in debates if you are unsure about something, or want to put your beliefs through the “fire”, and make a sound decision, because one way will allow for growth, and one way will potentially eat up what is already “left over” from the last "round."
