In Russia, at the Kremlin, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), and his team, the IMF (Impossible Missions Force) is working undercover on an assignment to infiltrate the Kremlin, snag a file from a Russian nuclear strategist (who seeks to detonate a nuclear bomb), and leave. On Ethan’s way out of the mission, a bomb goes off, blowing up the Kremlin. Knocked out from the bombing, Ethan wakes up in a hospital, where a Russian man confronts him as someone who “saw him,” in disguise just before the bomb went off. In that, the IMF ends up being blamed for the bombing. The president disavows the IMF, and initiates “Ghost Protocol.” In that, Ethan and his team are left “on their own” without any special protection, or assistance from anybody to keep themselves safe, clear the name of the IMF, and expose the real culprit behind the bombing.
Despite the high risk of getting into situations that could brand them as terrorists, Ethan and his team try to chase the real bomber, whose name is Kurt Hendricks, who, as a wealthy and highly skilled terrorist, seeks to initiate a nuclear war between the United States and Russia. This chase leads the team to Dubai and then Mumbai in the quest to prevent a nuclear attack in the United States.
This movie was very well done, and shattered all expectations. Usually by the time a movie franchise reaches its 4th film, it shows exhaustion. To me, this was the best Mission Impossible movie to date, and one that was strong enough to warrant a possible 5th movie. The movie was very suspenseful; action packed, and had scenes in it that was intense. To me, one of the most intense scenes of the film was when Ethan was climbing the Burj Dubai skyscraper (located within the United Arab Emirates in Saudi Arabia), which is the tallest building in the world. If you are really afraid of heights, this scene will really play a number on it. But what can I say? That’s part of the thrill! And yet this movie contains many thrilling moments.
Out of 4 stars, I will have to give this movie 4 stars.
The film is rated PG-13 and runs 2 hours and 13 minutes.
