Several weeks ago, and a friend and me decided to watch both of the Jackass movies that are on DVD, and then see the third one at the theater. And so we watched them. The first two movies funny overall, yet there were a lot of gross moments in them made me gag, as well as stupid stunts and situations that are placed in true life settings that capture people’s reactions to things. In other words, the films are about a bunch of guys behaving like Jackasses, abusing their bodies, doing disgusting things to instigate the audience’s gag reflexes, pulling a bunch of high-level pranks on people that could give anyone unsuspecting the pranks, a coronary, and getting people to react to coordinated, awkward moments and situations.
The current film does more of what the other films brought to the table. The only difference is that this film was filmed with a 3-D camera. Some of the gags are really gross (like the fat man sweat suit scene, or the bungee port-a-potty), some are really stupid (like the pig and the apple), and some are really, really hilarious (like the midget bar scene, or Johnny Knoxville’s awkward Grampa, Granddaughter scene). And yet, anyone going to see these movies go to see something extraordinarily gross, stupid, insane, and funny.
So, if the movies are all these things, why go see them? Well, I guess to sum it all up, I think the level of curiosity and sense of uncertainty tends to draw one to see these movies. They are creative, and the funny scenes in them are in fact laugh out loud hilarious.
One thing I will advise. If you do decide to go and see this movie, do not go on a full stomach.
Out of 4 stars, I give Jackass 3-D 2 and ½.
The film is rated R and runs about an hour and a half.
