Steve Carell (40 Year Old Virgin, Get Smart) plays a despicable villain named Gru in competition with another despicable villain in “The Despicable Me.” This film has a very unique storyline. When Gru wants something, he gets it. Whether he has to use guns that freeze people to get a muffin and a coffee, use his extra large-rocket-type car to force himself a parking space, or what have you, Gru will do what he has to to get what he wants and to get it now. Gru’s villainy is his publicity, and his publicity is his living. And so, Gru and his competitor Vector set out to steal the moon in the most radical heist of all time. In the process of working on this heist, Gru goes to the orphanage to pick up three little girls to use for his heist. In the process, after he takes them into his home, the girls begin to want him for a dad, and Gru begins to have a connection with them. And yet, Gru is faced with a decision. Either abandon his heist all together, and allow Vector to steal the moon out from under him, or be a father to those little girls. This movie was very entertaining and funny. It was also very clever and creative. It was one of the best movies I’ve seen this year. And yet, out of 4 stars, I give this movie 4 stars. The movie is rated PG and runs 1 hour and 35 minutes.
