After 10 years since the release of Toy Story 2, and countless rumors about a third, the third Toy Story movie was finally released to an ever anticipating audience. This time around, Andy is getting ready to go away to college, and in the process he is trying to clean up, pack up, and move out. While Andy’s sister Molly is donating some of her toys to a daycare center, and some turbulent “close calls” with some of Andy’s toys about to meet their doom by the garbage collector, Andy’s toys end up by accident at a daycare center.
Sunnyside Daycare Center:
Andy’s toys are welcome with open arms by the toys of Sunnyside, but for good reason. The older toys are in control and want to stay in one piece, so they have a mob-like system to get the newer toys to be subjected by the rough playing habits of little kids. This “mob” like system is controlled by Latso (short for Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear), a pink, furry teddy bear that smells like strawberries. Latso, and his select group of goons runs Sunnyside Daycare like a prison. Any new toy that tries to escape or tries any sudden moves is punished (with the sandbox), imprisoned, or “roughed up.” Just ask the plastic Fisher Price telephone. And yet the plot revolves around Woody, Buzz, and the rest of Andy’s toys trying to escape Sunnyside Daycare, get back to Andy before he moves away, and leave no toy behind in doing it. And in turn, you have a fast paced, funny, and enjoyable movie that you will not soon forget.
Toy Story 3 has many surprises and changes to it. First of all, some of the toys that you met in the first and second films are not in the third film. BoPeep, Squeek (that Penguin toy from the second film that squeeks), are gone, and while the toys get sold, donated, or thrown out, the toy soldiers make a comment about the army men being the first ones to go, just before they parachute out the window. Then, by the time we reach Sunnyside Daycare, we meet and get acquainted with a bunch of new toy characters, some of which are cute, funny (like the clown), or villainous. Either way the flow of the story keeps your interest throughout the entire run. The movie is enjoyable. In fact, I actually liked Toy Story 3 better than Toy Story 2 which I thought was also good.
At any rate, out of 4 stars, I am giving this movie 4 stars.
The film is rated G and runs 1 hour and 42 minutes.
