Robert Downey Jr. is back as industrialist Tony Stark in this highly anticipated sequel to the popular film “Iron Man.” This time around, Tony Stark has some major problems to confront. For one, Stark is faced with his own mortality. Fighting to stay alive, and keep his energy going due to the affects of the arc reactor (the circle) in his chest, Stark tries to find a new energy source, while continuing to do daring, and reckless things. Amidst this, everyone in the world knows that he is Iron Man, and so, while Stark is doing some of his death defying feats (like high-speed racing), a Russian physicist by the name of Ivan Vanko disrupts Tony’s personal life to settle a score that involved both Vanko’s father and Stark’s father decades ago.
Then we meet Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), a haughty weapons profiteer who seeks to sell his Iron-man type drones to the U.S. Government. As such, Hammer seeks Stark’s plans. Since Ivan Vanko collaborated with Stark’s father decades ago, Hammer busts Vanko out of jail to have Vanko work for him, work to destroy Iron Man, and have nothing stand in his way of selling his drones to the Government.
While all of this is going on, we see developments take place that are (like the first film) leading up to an “Avengers” movie.
All in all, I must say that this movie was kick-ass! I really enjoyed the first film, and this to me, simply added on to it, instead of overpowering it, or leaving a bad impression on the series altogether. It was very action-packed, funny, suspenseful, and the plot was interesting to say the least. Robert Downey Jr. was excellent, and Mickey Rourke was spectacular.
Out of four stars, I would have to give this movie four stars.
The film is rated PG-13 and runs 2 hours and 4 minutes.
