About a week ago, I went with a friend of mine to see Kevin James’ new movie “Paul Blart; Mall Cop.” The story begins where Paul Blart, a mall security guard is helping to train a new mall cop. This trainee, it turns out, becomes a ring leader to a crime which leads to a hostage situation. As the mall is taken over, Blart tries to honor his job’s duty, which is to protect and defend the mall. As different approaches are attempted in nabbing the bad guys, Blart must come to grips with his immortality, and with his attempts at keeping a decent woman who has his eye. I thought there were some funny parts in the movie, but the storyline was too farfetched and unbelievable—especially in the end. What prompted me to see this movie was Kevin James, as I loved him in the hit CBS series “The King of Queens” (1998-2007). By casting Kevin James in this roll, it earned the film one extra star in my book. If the movie stood the way it was without him, I would have probably walked out of the theater and demanded my money back. Out of 5 stars, I would have to give it a 2 and ½. The film is rated PG.
