Just about everybody is in some way or another acquainted with the classic Charles Dickens story “A Christmas Carol”. A Christmas Carol was released in 1843 and it was essentially a story about the coldness of the human heart and the greed affiliated with it. The story’s character, Ebenezer Scrooge is so greedy and yet so wealthy, that he holds contempt for those who need money for charity, those who need money to survive, and those who want to spend money on gifts for other people. To Scrooge, everybody is more or less a being of consumption in the sense that people keep depleting money and resources. In that his love for people runs cold, and the visits by the three spirits reveal this to him.
The Ghost of Christmas past reveals to Scrooge the time when he was a happy man, and when he had friends who showed him love and compassion. From then on, the ghost of Christmas past shows Scrooge what happened to his relationships when he allowed greed to get in the way. In other words, at the direction of the spirit, he witnessed the evolution of the hardening of his heart.
The Ghost of Christmas present revealed to Scrooge the moral repercussions of how his coldness of heart was affecting the lives of others, including his family and star employee Bob Cratchet.
The Ghost of Christmas future revealed to Scrooge how he would die a lonely man, without so much as anybody missing his presence.
And so, A Christmas Carol gives us a strong moral lesson. A person’s selfish wants and desires move a person to greed, and in that form of greed, he pursues more of what he wants without so much as any love or moral regard for other people. Scrooge holds contempt to things that are moral, Godly, and good. He is after what he is after, but in the end, is he a happy man? No. Is he a powerful man? Yes. And perhaps this man gets his kicks by testing how far he can go by using any means he sees fit in accumulating what he desires.
Capitalism or Socialism?
Some people affiliate Ebenezer Scrooge’s behavior with capitalism. But was that the intent of the author? No. Capitalism when it is controlled by human greed and when it lacks any moral regard for the people who work under that system, it becomes evil. So, then what do you do? Do you initiate socialism? No. Socialism is a lie in the sense that it promises to take from the greedy and distribute it to the poor when in reality, it is a system that takes wealth away from everybody and dispenses it to greedy, wealthy politicians. In other words, when the moral element is out the door, the element of greed simply transfers from industry to government, and when industry is in the hands of the government, then everybody suffers. Let me go into that thought a little bit deeper. When greed is confined to one industry or business, the people who work for that business will suffer. But when government takes over all of the businesses, everybody in the society under it will suffer because it requires a substantiated amount of money from those who earn that money to keep those government controlled businesses running whether they thrive or fail. Government greed places harsh economic constraints on the people whom it is supposed to help take care of as we are feeling at the current time. Government cannot control itself. It seeks to take more away from us, to further fatten its unquenchable hunger for all we have. If you do your homework, you will find that many of the people who are currently running the United States Government are radicals who not only admire prominent communist revolutionaries like Mao Tse Tung, Saul Alinsky, Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, etc., but are actively applying the policies that their communist role models once applied in their societies years back in order to trigger a revolution initiated by the state by taking away the freedoms of the populace in order to establish a dictatorial system for which if the politicians say something, the people either have to obey, or be punished.
An antichrist system is a system that forces people to conform to the will of one. I also find it interesting that the very same people in our government are also affiliated with constituents who are instrumental in trying to eliminate God from public life. God is the only being that establishes a moral element, and as these evil people who have a form of legal sovereignty over our lives try to snuff out that moral element, they don’t feel as guilty when they pursue taking all they can from us to satisfy their own greed. In other words, what you’ve got is a bunch of Ebenezer Scrooges in the making only with political power, passing laws that affect you and me for the sole purpose of stealing what we’ve earned while at the same time forcing us to use fewer resources so that they can be in complete and total control of those resources.
For those who buy DVDs, one of the bonuses that are featured on them are alternate endings. The common story of “A Christmas Carol” is where Scrooge is converted from his cold, impersonal, and greedy state of mind, to a warm, friendly, and giving person. In other words, he is given a chance to turn things around, and to see people with value and worth. Today, we have the power to get involved and elect those who see people as people, see people who see us as something more than just cash cows who pay big money to the almighty government. We can have a happy ending, or an alternate, depressing one. The choice is yours. The ball is in your court. The ending is yours to write in this story.
