Liam Neeson returns as former CIA agent Bryan Mills in the third installment of the “Taken” series.
The Story:
Bryan Mills and his ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen), appear to be reconciling, which makes her husband Stuart (Dougray Scott) uncomfortable. After receiving a text from Lenore asking him to meet her in his apartment, Mills finds a knife laying on the floor and Lenore in his bed, with her throat slashed. Seconds later, Police bust into the bedroom and attempt to arrest Mills, but he finds a way to escape the situation. After calling his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) to inform her that he has been framed and that the police are after him, he tells her to stay safe and that he will protect her. Perceived as a potential murderer, and a threat (because of his background and training), Mills is trying to avoid being captured by the police, FBI, and CIA, while trying everything in his power to find out who murdered his ex-wife, pursue them personally, and clear his name. All of these events, and the ones that follow, involve a Russian mob boss by the name of Oleg Malankov (Sam Spruell), which unravels by the end of the movie an interesting plot twist, in addition to a climactic ending that gives an entirely different meaning to the word “taken”.
I enjoyed this movie on a variety of levels. I thought it was much better than the second one, and was on many levels anyway, clever. It was filled with action and suspense (while once again treating us to another good car chase scene), while the story’s progression made the movie interesting and fast paced.
Out of 4 stars, I am giving Taken 3, 3 stars.
The film is rated PG-13 and runs 1 hour and 49 minutes.
