What runs through your mind when you hear that Tom Cruise is starring in another alien type movie? If you’re like me, than you probably rolled your eyes, and added it to your “who cares” list of movies, and from there, ignored it. This is exactly what I did until a couple of friends and relatives recommended it. That said, the movie radically changed the attitude I had going into it for the better.
The Story:
The movie begins after an alien invasion. Major William Cage (Tom Cruise), a PR officer, is ordered to participate in a risky landing operation against the aliens (who are called Mimics). In this, a war breaks out, and Cage is killed in combat, only to wake up the day before the mission he was assigned to and notice that he is re-living the day all over again, yet able to retain information in how he died, so he can try to prevent it from happening once again. From there, he is caught in a sort of “time loop” which demands that he makes the right decision, every time if he actually stands a chance to defeat the alien forces. Cage’s mission to learn about the Mimics and defeat them involves him partnering up with a highly skilled Special Forces warrior by the name of Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) in hopes to train up, learn what to do and what not to do (or risk repeating everything again), and try to defeat the alien invaders.
This movie, I thought was very creative, and sort of reminded me of a sci-fi “Groundhog Day.” It was very action packed and held my interest throughout. That said, I would recommend it and give it 3 and a half stars.
The Edge of Tomorrow is rated PG-13, and runs 1 hour and 53 minutes.
